 Zone Routing Order Selection Concept

Is Zone Routing right for your operation?

While Zone Routing systems may offer substantial manpower and efficiency improvements over conventional "safari" picking methods, it is not a total solution for every industry.

Disadvantages

  • Initial Investment
  • Higher Dependency on Computer
  • More Componentry
  • More Sophisticated Hardware and Software

Advantages

  • Reduced Manpower
  • Computer Directed
  • Audit Capabilities
  • Order Progress Reporting
  • Migration To Paperless Picking
  • Increased Throughput
  • Less Handling
  • Stock Replenishment Capabilities

Please Note:

It may be possible to modify an existing conveyor system to accommodate Zone Routing. This will reduce costs by permitting the re-use of most of the existing equipment.

While there are some disadvantages, however the advantages of Zone Routing usually outweigh the inherent drawbacks.
